La plage et réserve naturelle de Monterrico-Hawaï est située à 3 heures de Guatemala city sur la côte Pacifique du Guatemala – un endroit paradisiaque pour des vacances aussi connu pour son centre de conservation des tortues de mer et réserve naturelle protégée.
La semaine Montérrico est très tranquille et les fins de semaine, le village et la plage se transforment et se remplissent de Guatémaltèques qui s’échappent des villes pour profiter de la plage et faire la fête!!
Dans mes 4 jours de visite (trop court!!), j’ai rencontré Ricardo Mata Jr, un photographe professionnel du Guatemala, dont le père était aussi un grand photographe. Il vit maintenant à Monterrico, enseigne et organise des sorties de photographie spécialisées en «night painting», «food styling» et interprétation d’oiseaux. Bar Bambú , un pub sympa et relax avec une table de pool, de la bonne musique et son proprio, Edguar, bien «buena onda» 🙂
Osmosis, un authentique club du Guatemala pour danser reggaeton, salsa, cumbia, musica latina qui se remplit les samedis soirs.

Montérrico, Pacific coast of Guatemala
Beach & natural reserve of Monterrico-Hawaï is located 3 hours away from Guatemala City on Guatemala’s Pacific coast – a great holiday destination also well known for its turtles conservation center, natural reserve and canal.
On week days Monterrico is a real paradise as nobody is around. But on week-ends, the beach & canal fill up with Guatemalans who are escaping the cities to relax & party so the vibe changes quite a bit.
During my 4-days trip (way too short!!), I had the chance to spend an afternoon with professional photographer Ricardo Mata Jr along the Chiquimulilla- Montérrico canal. Photography has always been part of his life as his father was also a professional photographer. Ricardo now lives full time in Montérrico – he’s a photography teacher and organizes photography excursions and tours specialized in night painting, food styling and nature interpretation. Where to eat & drink in Montérrico:
Johnny’s place – a good restaurant with a mouth-watering menu. Friendly owner Mario is from Quebec and has lived in Montérrico with his Guatemalan wife and son for 6 years now. Johnny’s place is as well a hotel with a dorm, private rooms and bungalows.
Bar Bambú , a small pub, easy going with a pool table, good music and a cool owner, Edguar, super «buena onda» 🙂
Osmosis, an authentic Guatemalan club to dance until late night. If you feel like shaking it on some reggaeton, salsa, cumbia, musica latina, this is your place… it fills up on Saturday night.

I think that people do need to understand the difference between these two ways of booking. I have seen or experienced this myself while traveling last summer. I would like to review it on this blog as well.
