Welcome to Tulum!

Tulum beachYou MUST come down to Tulum. First, it’s one of the most beautiful white sand beach in the world (in the world, yess!!), plus Tulum beach hosts only small hotels & cabañas (no resort!!). Second, the vibe in the “pueblo” at night is awesome: You’ll always find some live bands of reggae, ska, salsa, rock or some great Djs playing. Tulum is still a village, with a family atmosphere. full of amazing people & places, and it’s quite alive couple nights out of the week. And third, it’s surrounded by pure natural wonders to explore: Cenotes, jungle, natural reserve, Mayans ruins…

My favorite accommodation in Tulum:

Chalupa's private hotel RoomIn town (The town is 4 km from the beach, a 6$ taxi ride): Chalupa hostel  – A double bed in a dorm is at 200 pesos (18$) for 1, or 250 pesos (22$) for 2, which is 11$/person, including breakfast!! Private room is at 500 pesos (45$) for 2, 5$ per extra person. The place is super cool, clean, it has a pool, a kitchen (strictly vegetarian!), all prices include breakfast, it’s well located because it’s in town, but on the beach road. Plus, the bar is run by my lovely friend Charlie 🙂

Cheap & local: Los Colectivos

You can get from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum for only 35 pesos (3$) with a small van called a “colectivo” (take a look at it on the map).

Colectivos are everywhere in Mexico (and in many other countries of south & central America). They are the local (and cheap!) transportation that Mexicans use to get around and go to work.

Colectivos are small vans of 12 to 20 passengers and are very comfortable. The vans are managed by syndicalist groups, for which each driver pays a daily rental. And since more and more tourists now take the Colectivos, tourism has become quite an important economic contribution for the drivers & their syndicates.

Jaime, a Colectivo driver super sympatico!
